Hey! Ever get stung?
My son, Parker, (aka P-Diddy, G, P-Man, little dude…although I think as he nears his teens the “little dude” pet name is gonna have to go! wink! wink! Know whatta mean???!), so Parker susatains a Grade A Bee Sting on his elbow right before leaving for the Cub Scouts picnic to qualify for his picnic merit badge… or planning family outing badge.
Hey! Who plans a picnic outing at night, when its dark… on a school night anyway?? And in the middle of winter…with 15 boys??? Gotta love the Boy Scouts of America! Making men out of mere boys. (And their single mothers! Haha! Just sayin’)
I kinda have fonder memories of Girl Scouts… I mean no nighttime-middle-of-winter-picnic merit badges. We, as Girl Scouts of America, were more concerned with selling boxes of wafer thin mint cookies (door-to-door in the good old days before child abductions), and making arts & crafts in deserted grade school cafeterias (bench seating was a bit firm though).
Does a good mommy allow her child to go to Cub Scouts after being stung by a killer bee? (Parker claims it came from the killer bee strain he’d seen on Animal Planet). In all seriousness, I in my infinite Wisdom of Solomon moment, tried to alleviate his sheer panic by congratulating him on his sting. (You can’t accuse me of NOT being creative, c’mon!)
“Parker what a blessing! That’s so cool!! The bee chose YOU!” (with an “OMG! You just won the Publisher’s Clearing House Sweepstakes” kinda voice)
He stopped screaming… and looked at me as if I had been smokin’ somthing. “Mom! How is a bee sting a good thing?!! What’s wrong with you?!” (…such an incredulous tone to take with his own mother!)
So here’s my little pitch….. or my “shift” on bee stings and getting stung… in the backyard or in life in general…. check out the video here:
We’ve all had bad stings.. no need to compare stingers, right? I mean size really doesn’t matter, (k it might have been a little funnier used somewhere else….), but in the end we all have our lives, our “stuff” and its about responding more and reacting less. Its about using our times of pain & suffering for growth and forward momentum.
Its about connecting with one another, supporting each other and in really creating more of a relationship with opportunity & success through those ’stings.’
I’d LOVE to hear what you think or feel. You know I wanna connect with you… so please leave a comment. Let’s be “real” together!
Much love to you…. and congratulations on your STING!

Tamara

Tamara,
Congrats on your first video blog! Here’s to many more.
My friend got stung last Summer, just before a trip to Australia and her husband (who teaches alternative medicine) said “That’s wonderful, because now you’re immune system can be ready for anything you may face out in the Australian Bush”.
We thought that was a great re-frame.
Much love to you and look forward to watching more xxx
